Where earlier Agent Provocateur collections occasionally flirted with the male gaze, this time the designers have managed to leave it behind completely – even compared to sets like Pump It Up. Yet the lingerie has lost none of its sex appeal or provocative charge. In these sheer bras, silk panties, fetish corsets and lace robes, the game is very clearly played on her terms, with no need to glance over at what the boys might think.
The concept comes to life in the campaign film “Enter a Fantasy World”, which introduced the AW19 collection. The story unfolds inside Club AP – a pink-hued parallel dimension run entirely by women, and in the film men are conspicuously absent.
The collection is built around several stylistic “worlds”. World Romance, for example, leans into dark lace and mesh with dramatic patterns. The Clio set stands out in this section as a particularly striking interpretation of that moody, romantic theme. Life in Pink is aimed at those who like to see the world through rose-tinted glasses: these pieces feel spun from caramel-soft romance, yet subtle notes of provocation keep them from ever becoming saccharine.
The size range will please both petite and fuller-figured women. This inclusivity was highlighted at the September presentation of the collection, where models of different body types and appearances took to the stage in AP’s “fantasy world” looks.
