In its Spring–Summer 2019 collection, legendary lingerie brand Agent Provocateur pays tribute to the hot, high-energy spirit of the Eighties. You might say many designers have already revisited that decade – and you would be right. AP does not stand apart from the general trend in its love for this era, but the end result is, frankly, better than most.
Beyond a charming, playful homage to the fun, unabashed Eighties, Pump It Up carries a clear message: Agent Provocateur lingerie is not just for languid posing. You can move in it, “pump it up” to an upbeat soundtrack, even work out.
Sport is very much part of the story: Pump It Up includes not only panties, bras, bodysuits, and slips, but also swimwear. There are many styles in the lineup, reflecting different facets of the disco, synth-pop, and aerobics era. Fabrics range from lace and mesh to silk.

Alongside black and white pieces that, despite their classic colors, are anything but boring, stand bold, colorful designs. The very embodiment of Eighties spirit is the Marty range: bras, brief-style panties, and bodysuits in pink, yellow, and green, created in a bandage-inspired mixed lace.
This is lingerie that genuinely belongs on the dance floor. And if you are not quite ready to step out in lingerie alone, take a look at the bright green Jasper jumpsuit with wide fluid trousers, an elegant top with loose sleeves, and a deep V neckline.
As is tradition for Agent Provocateur, the collection launch was accompanied by a short film. In Pump It Up, athletic, seductive women dance energetically and provocatively in a pool and gym. It is not the brand’s most remarkable video – AP has produced more interesting films – but it did stir up a minor online scandal. Many viewers, especially women with feminist views, were outraged that the lingerie ad seemed clearly aimed at men and showcased obvious sexual objectification of women.
Is that really the case? That is for you to decide after watching the film. The collection itself, however, definitely deserves its place among Agent Provocateur’s best.
